Shopping Mall Fire Kills 11 in Syria

SYRIA: On Tuesday, at least 11 people were killed, and seven others wounded, from a fire that broke out at a shopping mall in the capital city of Damascus in Syria.

The Lamirada Mall on Hamra Street, where the fire broke out, is one of the most famous shopping centers in the city, according to state news agency SANA.

Firefighters rushed to the scene of the disaster to extinguish the blaze. Local firefighter, Val Al Khalid, said, "We rushed to the site and tried to contain the fire inside the mall so it wouldn't spread to nearby buildings. Now we're inspecting this area to prevent re-ignition.”

Survivors who were caught in the fire and now suffering from smoke inhalation have also been taken to the hospital.

The fire caused huge damage and property losses, and investigation to determine the cause of the fire is still ongoing, state news agency SANA have stated.
